Gov. Mario Eduardo Ortega backs info drive to expand grassroots access to national services

The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through its Media Affairs Office (MAO), joined municipal communicators and key national agencies during the La Union Association of Government Information Officers (LUAGIO) meeting on Aug. 27, 2026, at the Bacnotan Public Market.

The gathering brought together information officers from local government units alongside representatives from the Social Security System (SSS), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC), and PAG-IBIG Fund to streamline grassroots communication strategies and expand public awareness on essential social security and welfare programs.

Represented by Executive Assistant Denver G. Badua, Governor Mario Eduardo C. Ortega highlighted the crucial role of government communicators in bridging national services with local communities, stressing that truthfulness, transparency, and integrity remain vital in delivering accurate public information.

Organized with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Region 1 under Regional Head Jennilyne C. Role and attended by Bacnotan Vice Mayor Francisco Angelito L. Fontanilla, the event also saw the election and induction of new LUAGIO officers, led by newly elected president and PGLU Media Affairs Office Head Mary Joy B. Castillo.

The Politiko reaffirmed the Capitol’s dedication to strengthening institutional communication networks so that every barangay resident remains informed and empowered to access government support.
